Family Law California / New York - Attorney Profile

Since 1994, Wendy Landes, a former family-law litigator admitted to practice law both in New York and California, has devoted her practice to resolving family-law cases out of court.

She works with couples and individual parties by helping them select the most suitable process to obtain a divorce. Then, by serving as a mediator, collaborative divorce attorney or consulting attorney to participants in divorce mediation, Landes guides clients through the divorce process.

Because many divorcing couples don’t realize that divorce can be handled in several different ways, Landes has devoted a large portion of her career to educating the public on alternative divorce options. These options such as mediation and collaborative divorce helps avoid the devastation that often occurs in families going through the traditional divorce process.

Landes, an active participant in the California State Bar and the Los Angeles family-law community, works closely with the Superior Court of Los Angeles to streamline the processing of mediated and collaborative divorce judgments. She has co-authored pamphlets and literature on divorce options for distribution by the courts (see “Resources” section). In addition, Landes has presented numerous public-education programs on the topic of mediation.

As current chair of the State Bar Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee, Family Law Section, Landes reviews and proposes new legislation concerning mediation.

Landes is an Advanced Practitioner with the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) and a member of Family Law Attorney Mediators Engaged in Study (FLAMES). She is also actively involved with Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Attorneys (LACFLA), Los Angeles Westside Collaborative Divorce Practice Group (LAWCDP), International Academy of Colloborative Professionals (IACP)and the Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Los Angeles Bar Associations.

After completing basic and advanced mediation training from the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law, Landes also received additional training from the Center for Mediation and Law. She has completed two collaborative law training seminars sponsored by LACFLA.

Landes was admitted to the New York Bar in 1981 and to the California Bar in 1994. She graduated from the Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University (J.D. 1980) and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania (B.A. 1977, Magna Cum Laude).

Landes serves clients in the Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange County areas. As a member of the New York State Bar, Landes is also equipped to mediate divorces between individuals who reside in the separate states of New York and California, as well as represent individual clients in bi-coastal non-litigated or collaborative divorce.
